Women for Water Partnership
| << BACK | NEXT >> |

Women for Water Partnership (WfWP) is an international network of women’s organisations in South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and West- and Eastern Europe. The partnership consists of more than a million women, from different social cultural and professional backgrounds, who contribute to poverty reduction with their know-how and experience. Empowerment, local ownership, equity mainstreaming, partnership, and grassroots development are the key concerns of WfWP.
Our focus
The focus of Women for Water Partnership is sustainable development through integrated water resource management. WfWP consists of one of the Major Groups that are identified by the United Nations to shape a sustainable society. In accordance to integrated water resource management women play a pivotal role in the provision, management and safeguarding of water (Dublin Principles, 1992). Solutions within the field of water resource management and sanitation are not sustainable without their intrinsic knowledge and input.
World Water Forums: our involvement
Advocating equity mainstreaming has been a major activity of WfWP during the World Water Forums since 2000. After co-organising the gender programmes of WWF 2 and WWF 3 women’s participation was mainstreamed in the sessions of WWF 4. As a next step an equity mainstreaming process has been developed for WWF 5: WfWP takes the formal lead in organising the Women’s & Gender Coalition at WWF 5.
Our added value
WfWP fills the gap between the local day-to-day practice in water management and the international agreed principles for sustainable development. The partnership links macro and micro level interventions and creates conditions that enable women and their organisations to become partners in the development of their own environment.
Our working methodology
WfWP has its own working methodology: Dynamic Networking. It is tailor-made for sustainable solutions at grass roots level. Through the Dynamic Networking approach all stakeholders arrive at a shared needs perception and jointly develop the most appropriate solution. In the resulting project all parties involved work together on an equal footing contributing their specific expertise.
Our working conferences
At the WfWP working conferences initiatives of member organisations are developed into concrete projects. Relevant stakeholders are invited to participate in the joint development and subsequent implementation of these projects. The knowledge and experience about a.o. partnerships, appropriate technologies, micro finance, and up-scaling of successful initiatives are exchanged and put to practice.
