Upcoming conference in Moldova organized by Women for Water Partnership

The Working conference, which will be held in Moldova 18-20th of May 2009, has already 80 registrations.The title of the conference is ‘From policy to practice: developing sustainable water and health projects for Moldova. It is the first national WfWP working conference. The organisers are WfWP’s Moldavian members, Business Professional Women (BPW) and WISDOM. “Water means health, sanitation means also dignity”
Based on the strategic partnership with Women for Water Partnership and in realisation of its working plan, the EWP was invited to present Aquawareness within the international working conference on: „From policy to practice - developing sustianbale water and health projects in Moldova”. This two days conference , which was organised by Women for Water Partnership and hosted by Business Professional Women in Moldova (BPW-M) as well as Women in Sustainable Development of Moldova (WiSDOM) was held in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau at the Palace Publice from 18th-20th May 2009.
The framework of this first national working conference was provided by the Water and Health Protocol, which Moldova ratified in 2005, and the pilot status of Moldova. The „setting targets and target dates to implement the Protocol on Water &Health in Republic of moldova” has been initiated as a crucial first step for achieving the Water&Health Protocol aims. The conference main theme was sustainability of grassroot water and health initiatives, notably the situtation of drinking water&sanitation.
Ms. Buliga, Parliamentary Commission Chair on Family and Health, welcomed the participants by „urging all parties to unite efforts in order to achieve better resultswith regard to drinking water and sanitation as bad water quality has adverse influence on human health”.
Ms. Obreja, member of the Healthcare of the Republic of Moldova, invited everybody „to discuss concrete actions to improve the quality of water and thus the quality of life for future generations”. She added, that „given the framework of the Water and Health Protocol national legislation has to adjust to the requirements of this protocol, reducing the crucial challenge for Moldova"
